Prevent tooth decay and gum disease

At Field House Dental Practice, hygiene maintenance treatment is included in our Denplan schemes from only £15.20 per month.

Attending regular hygienist appointments is extremely important in tackling and preventing gum disease and other destructive issues like tooth decay. For the majority of patients, we recommend attending a hygienist appointment every six months.

As the saying goes, prevention is definitely better than a cure when it comes to dental hygiene. At Field House Dental Practice, we aim to provide our patients with knowledge and skills to be able to prevent tooth decay and gum disease. Our experienced team of dentists and hygienists are here to help you keep your teeth and gums in a fantastic condition.

Having good oral hygiene begins at home. Diligent brushing with an appropriate toothbrush, along with flossing, will get you off to a great start. However, no matter how well you look after your teeth at home, the bacteria that leads to both tooth decay and gum disease can often find its way into places in the mouth that is impossible to reach without professional care.

What does a good oral health routine look like?

  • Brush your teeth for 2 minutes before you go to bed at night and on one other occasion every day – we recommend the morning.
  • Manual or electric toothbrushes are equally as sufficient in cleaning your teeth but most people prefer to use an electric toothbrush.
  • Use a toothpaste that contains the correct amount of fluoride
  • Floss your teeth regularly – at least once a day
  • Not being a smoker
  • Regularly attending dental and hygienist appointments

What will you receive during an appointment with our hygienist?

Our hygienists are on hand to help you and support your cleaning efforts at home. Using the latest equipment, they will remove any tartar (hardened bacteria) that has built up over time in difficult to reach areas. This thorough clean will leave your teeth feeling amazing and help to fight off gum disease.

Our hygienist will perform a treatment to remove any tartar, plaque and staining. This will result in you walking away from your appointment with a fresher, cleaner feeling mouth. Our hygienist will also check your mouth over for symptoms of gum disease and other oral problems. Most importantly, you will receive advice on the best way you can look after your teeth at home.
