Overcome your dental anxiety with Field House Dental Practice

Suffering from dental anxiety or nervousness is very common. In fact, 1 in 4 people suffer with a form of nervousness or anxiety surrounding dentists and dental treatment.

If you have dental anxiety, you’ve probably heard it hundreds of times, but there is really is nothing to be afraid of. At Field House Dental Practice, our dentists are experienced in putting nervous patients at ease. We will make sure you feel as relaxed as possible, from the initial consultation to the treatment process itself.

Some people suffer with so much anxiety around dentistry that they put off making a dental appointment at all. Attending regular dental health assessments is vital if you would like to keep your mouth healthy. During an assessment, your teeth, gums and the skin in the mouth will be examined, meaning any potential problems will be caught early before they become more complicated.

Overcoming your dental anxiety is not only beneficial to you, but it is also ensuring your teeth and gums can be well looked after by your dentist. There are several ways you can reduce your dental anxiety. We have listed some of our top tips that we often recommend to our nervous patients.

Visit us before your appointment

We would always recommend nervous patients coming to visit us before their first appointment. This gives you the opportunity to meet the reception staff, have a look around the practice and meet your dentist. It is a great way for you to familiarise yourself with the practice.

Bring someone with you

When you come along to the appointment itself, we think it’s a great idea for you to bring someone along with you. Whether it be a family member or close friend, having someone familiar there with you will instantly help you to feel more relaxed. Just make sure you choose someone who has no dental anxiety themselves.

Appointment timing

If you are an anxious patient, why not book an appointment that’s early in the morning. This will mean you aren’t worrying about it all day, which will automatically mean you are more relaxed by the time you get to the practice.

Trust your dentist

At Field House Dental Practice, we don’t want patients to be nervous of us. We are here to help you. We will talk you through everything that we need to do to assess your dental health, as well as any treatment that you may need. We will make sure you feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible. Before we start your dental health assessment or treatment, we will agree a signal for you to use if you want us to stop and we will make sure that everything is taken at your pace. You will have all the time you need.
